Shooters Union Tasmania Seeks Tafe Cut Reassurances

The Tasmanian Government has recently announced cuts to TAFEs throughout the state, which is a concern as TAFE is  the provider for firearms safety courses needed to obtain a gun licence in Tasmania.

Shooters Union Tasmania president Phillip Bigg has written directly to Police Minister Felix Ellis, asking him to confirm there are no changes to firearms-related courses operating via TAFE, and confirm that there are no plans to change this in the foreseeable future

Phillip has also asked Mr Ellis to confirm any civilian firearms training and/or courses deemed necessary through FAS or under regulations/legislation will remain independent of organisations with vested interests.

A representative from Mr Ellis’ office has confirmed receipt of the inquiry and said the enquiry is currently going through the approval process, and a response can be expected “in due course”.

Naturally, we will keep you updated when that response arrives.
