Shooters Union appear at Royal Commission

Shooters Union was invited to attend the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion in Sydney yesterday, and presented briefing papers to Commission members - some of which were used during the day’s hearings.

Shooters Union president Graham Park said the organisation was attending at the hearings with a view to assisting the Commission in reaching the best possible outcomes.

“We are immensely grateful to the Commission for the opportunity to attend and provide submissions on such significant matters,” Mr Park said.

“There are a number of additional hearings over the coming months and we expect to appear at some of these as well.”

Mr Park said to the best of his knowledge, Shooters Union was the first firearms representative organisation formally invited to attend a Royal Commission in Australia and it was a responsibility being taken very seriously.

“We’ve been working closely with our colleagues at the Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia (SIFA) and Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia (SSAA) National HQ, and we are all on the same page regarding these extremely important matters”, he said.

“It may surprise many people out there, but we all want a safer Australia too, and are just as keen, if not more so, to keep firearms out of the hands of terrorists, criminals, and other people who absolutely should not have access to them.

“We are looking forward to attending further hearings of the Commission in the coming months, and hopefully being able to present even more detailed evidence to its members.”
