Shooters Union QLD Single Action Shooters World Championships Success

Queensland Cowboy Action Shooters and Shooters Union members Brian Tosen and Joanne Dennes (aka Jackaroo SASS #29989 and Kathouse Kelli #72384) headed to the US in February to compete in the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) 2026 “End Of Trail” (World Championships) held at the Ben Avery Range in Phoenix, Arizona, with

Joanne taking out the World Championship in the Lady 49er category (women aged 49-59) with a clean match (meaning no penalties, misses, or procedural errors)

The Cowboy Action Shooting World Championships started with the additional match of Wild Bunch Action Shooting World Championships, and followed on with side events such as Warm Up matches, Speed Events in Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun categories before proceeding into the main match days.

The Main match consisted of 36 posses (shooting squads) of around 18-20 competitors, in three waves across three days to ensure all shooters complete 12 stages for the match. Between February 26-28, they completed four stages per day for the main match.

In addition to Joanne securing her sixth World Championship (having previously won five consecutive world championships from 2015-2019, and then taking a break from competing internationally until this year), Brian finished 10th place with a clean match in the Cattle Baron (men aged 75-80) category.

Prior to the World Championships commencing, Brian and Joanne attended a preliminary cowboy shoot at ‘Fire & Ice’ at Cowtown, Phoenix, AZ for a two-day match as a warm up.

Joanne finished 1st in Lady 49er with a clean match, and 27th overall from 210 competitors, and Brian finished 5th in his category of Cattle Baron.

Congratulations and well done to both Brian and Joanne on their success and achievements - it’s incredible to see Shooters Union members performing so well in the shooting sports on the world stage!
